ASM Make and Take with Cub Scout Den 7

   ASM conducted a Make and Take with Den 7 of Cub Scout Pack 17 on Monday, October 27, 2008 at Stapleton Elementary School in Rio Rancho.  There were seven Cub Scouts present and six ASM members: Jim Guld, Tom Perea, Patrick Dick, Mike McNichol, Josh Pals, and Mike Blohm.  The purpose of the Make and Take was to give the Cubs an introduction to modeling, have fun building a model, and then take it home with them afterwards.

   Jim Guld talked briefly about the hobby, followed by Mike Blohm discussing "What is Scale Modeling" using ASM's Scale Modeling display as a visual aid, featuring P-47 Thunderbolts in three different scales, plus some Star Wars snap-tite kits for good measure.  After that, it was delving into the model building! IPMS-USA supplied ASM with Revell 1/32 scale Snap-Tite kits of the 1968 Pontiac GTO "Black Ice", which the kids had fun putting together.  The Cubs worked at their own pace, and ASM members provided coaching, tips and recommendations as they worked their way through the kits.   It looked like a good time was had by all.  The Cubs also received parting-gifts that included an Accurate Miniatures 1/100 scale "Fighter Legends" glue-together kits, plus a tube of glue and a sanding stick.  Hopefully we'll see some of these Cubs get the spark and decide to take up the hobby and have some great fun while doing so.  Please check out the pics below.  Thanks to all who helped out.   ASM may be doing another Make and Take in the near future.
