2013 ASM Contest Schedule

As Of:  8 February 2013  -  Changes annotated by #

NEW for 2013 A Maximum of  5 entries may be entered on a "Points" night and 5 on a Non-Points night.

NEW for 2013"Double" theme nights.  Two themes will be presented to choose from.  One modeler can win both awards, but they must be separate models/entries.  If subjects for only one theme are present, only one theme, Best of Show award will be given for that level.

 

 BONUS:  New points awarding.  Each model entered where the builder has used a new technique for the first time and is one of those highlighted in this year's workshops, will earn an additional 25 points.  (Must specifically be a "newly" built model and the builder must convince the Contest Director that it was a "first time" attempt with the new technique).

Note:  All "Theme" contests are open to ALL entries.  However, only models that match the "theme" are eligible for the "Best of Show" awards and points in each skill level for that night, and will subsequently become an eligible candidate for the "Model of the Year" competition showdown in December.

Jan 4      Special Contest # 1  "Sci-Fi / Real Space / Fantasy/Science."  Any subject or scale in the realms of science fiction             Non-Points

             Modelers will compete against their peers from their division, Masters with Masters etc.
             Models will be judged on the basics of model building as well as accuracy of the vehicle.
             A "Slap Daddy" award will be given to the best model in each division and catergory depending on turnout.
             If a low turnout happens, then an award for the best in each division will be given
             No limit on the number of entries!
            All entrants must have fun building!

- A contest for the best models depicting a Bell Airacobra or Kingcobra.  Any model, any scale, any nationality and both WWII era and post-war.  Includes P-400, P-39 and P-63 with USAAF, Russian, RAF, French, etc. markings.  Anyone interested in building a P-63 Pinball Kingcobra No former National IPMS winners allowed, you gotta build a new model if you should be lucky enough to fall into this category.

Jan 8 2010 - Special Contest # 1 Sci-Fi/Real Space/Fantasy:  Any model, any scale, any time period, from the realms of Fantasy and Science Fiction, to space exploration (Sputnik, Mercury, Apollo, Soyuz etc.), or science subjects like dinosaurs, bugs, amoebas, etc.  Sponsored Contest - "Best Mirage" by Rick Carver -any Mirage III, IV, V, 2000 or variant (Kfir etc.).

Apr 2 2010 - Special Contest # 2 Golden Age Monogram - any Monogram scale model kit (aircraft, cars, tanks, figures etc.) from the origin of the company in 1945, through and until 1980.  Kits can be originals or reissues but must have been originally produced and marketed during this time period.  This is a great opportunity to have some fun and build those old neglected kits in your collection.  Entries do not need to be OOB.

* Jul 9 2010 - Sponsored Contest - FEM-CON by Josh Pals  A celebration of female figures from all genres (fantasy, pin-up, anime, historical etc.).  Hundreds of excellent female figure models are available on the market, and all scales and mediums are welcome for this contest.  Use your imagination, although figures should be tasteful and non-explicit.  *Sponsored Contest:  Tamiya Spitfire Contest sponsored by Hobby Proz and Brian Peck - Attention Spitwads!  Exclusive contest open to those members who participated in the group purchase of new Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire Mk. IXc kits through Brian Peck at Hobby Proz.  Kit can be built OOB or modified.  Entries will form the basis of a special group entry at the 2010 IPMS Nationals.

 Aug 13 2010 - Nationals Debrief Night - Bring your winning models and trophies, new kits, references, decals, war stories and scuttlebutt to share with other ASM members and celebrate our club's good competitive showing at the 2010 IPMS Nationals.  Cake, caviar and champagne for all present (well, cake anyway).   No model contest scheduled due to the proximity of IPMS National Convention in Phoenix, AZ, which will run from Aug 4 to Aug 7, 2010. 

Sep 10 2010 - Summer Points Contest - Open:  any model, any scale, any era  Clinic:  Aircraft Cockpits by Patrick Dick

 Oct 1 2010 - Special Contest # 4  Blitzkrieg! - any model, any scale, depicting a subject from the early days of WWII, from the German invasion of Poland in September 1939 through the Fall of France in June 1940.  A wide variety of Allied and German aircraft, armor, figures, ships and dioramas can be built to fit this theme.  Themed models entered in previous contests are welcome in this Special Contest, per guidelines in ASM contest rules.  The club is arranging for a special guest speaker to correspond with the contest theme.

 Nov 5 2010 - Fall Points Contest - Open:  any model, any scale, any era (final points contest to determine Modeler of the Year in each skill level).

 Dec 3 2010 - Sponsored ContestMercedes Daimler-Benz by Patrick Dick  Any car, truck, bus or other vehicle produced by this premier German auto company, or any subject powered by a Daimler-Benz engine.  (Contest Director's Note:   I visited the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart, Germany and can attest there are an infinite variety of model subjects that can fit this theme.  Good choice, Patrick!)  Plus Model of the Year Contest (Competition among Best of Show winners at each skill level from all of the 2010 Points and Special Contests).
