2022 Air Force Anniversary Ball

ASM’s model display at the Air Force 75th Anniversary Ball is on Friday, October 14th at the Mountain View Club on Kirtland AFB.  This is our fourth display at the AF Ball, and it has always been a fun event,

The display includes anything USAF from 1947 through 2022: any subject, any scale – aircraft, missiles, helicopters, vehicles, figures, dioramas.  This includes test aircraft, spacecraft where the crew was USAF, etc. – any connection with the USAF.  We will have 4 six-foot-long tables for the display.

The “theme” of the event is the “Roaring Twenties” so we would like to also include any models that fit that era.  We will stretch it into the mid-30’s as well.  If you have any aircraft –early trainers, fighters, bombers, World War I types used in the 20’s for movies, etc., please loan those.

Here is some related ASM History trivia.  ASM put on a year-long model display at Kirtland AFB in 1997 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Air Force.  We had rotating displays at four different locations on the base, including the National Atomic Museum.  So here we are 25 years later.  The 1997 display led to ASM having a World War II display at the Atomic Museum for 12 years from 1997 to 2009 that included 78 models.

We need four total people and at this time we are short one.  Please let me know if you are interested, and if you already have access to the base or will need to have a base pass.  Dress is suit or sports coat and tie.  ASM members will have access to the food and deserts.

Our set-up time is 4:30 PM to meet a 6:00 start for the event.  The event goes to 9:00 PM.  We will need to meet earlier at the Gibson Gate to get base visitor passes if those are required for anyone.

Please let me know (blohmm@aol.com) what models you can contribute.  We would like to have the same USAF-related models that we saw at the Folds of Honor display in August.

Bring your models in secure plastic tubs or model cases to Hobby Proz the week of 10 October, not later than close of business on Thursday, Oct 13th.  Put your name on the tub and include a listing of the models.

Models will be picked up during the week and late on Thursday afternoon.  Please let me know if you can only get them there on Friday morning.

Models will be brought back to Hobby Proz the following Monday or whenever you would like them dropped off.

Please check out all our previous AF Ball displays on the ASM Website at:  https://abqscalemodelers.com/air-force-ball/

Several pictures from our 2021 display are included with this article.

If you contributed any models for those, please bring them again.

Thanks for your participation.
