President’s Corner

ASM will have a special guest speaker at our December 2nd meeting; Jim Stark, a WWII P-38 pilot, will be speaking about his wartime experiences in the ETO.  Jim flew a P-38L Lightning with the 429th FS, 474th FG, 9th Air Force and was shot down, captured and escaped in April 1945.  This may be the last chance we have to hear a talk by a WWII veteran so don’t miss it.

Immediately prior to the club meeting, ASM member Jim Coatney will hold a Chile Con organizing meeting for those interested in volunteering for ASM’s proposed Chile Con V regional contest in 2024.  All who would like to lend a hand are welcome to attend; the Chile Con organizing meeting begins at 6 PM, with our club meeting getting underway at 6:30 PM.

There also will be models on the table this Friday- ASM’s annual Model of the Year contest, a competition among 2022 Best of Show models in each skill level.  Refer to ASM’s contest guidelines for eligibility.

A final note – COVID-19 is back.  Per the CDC, Bernalillo is currently rated High in COVID cases so common sense applies – don’t come to the meeting if you are ill or think you might be.  For those attending, feel free to wear a mask to avoid exposure.  We’d like to think the COVID pandemic is behind us but as we enter the holiday season, the virus is making its now-usual end-of-year comeback.

We should have a busy and enjoyable meeting – hope to see everyone there.
