What is Scale Modeling?

Are you new to the hobby and don’t know where to start, or just don’t understand what Scale Modeling is in the first place? Then you’ve come to the right place! We have all the basic information lined up for you.

A scale model is simply a smaller representation of a normal object. As a hobby, scale modeling is the act of assembling, painting, and displaying a model kit. Model kits contain the parts, instructions, and decals (which are similar to stickers) necessary to complete the build, but they do not include tools and paint. Kits are commonly available for all sorts of subjects – cars, trucks, trains, airplanes, tanks, military vehicles and weapon systems, ships, figures, spacecraft, buildings, science fiction.

Finescale Modeler magazine published a great four-part series that further explains how to get started with scale modelling.
